In close collaboration with the Managing Director, Corporate Marketing and Sales, the Senior Director, Participant Marketing and Customer Loyalty leads the team responsible for driving growth in the business-to-consumer segment of Harvard Business School's Executive Education group. As a steward of a leading global brand, the Senior Director will champion HBS's mission and vision through increased participation, engagement and retention of target customers and prospects. As part of this strategy, the Senior Director will:
Create and lead teams of experienced professionals to deliver growth in the business-to-consumer segment. Includes both product and brand marketing, customer loyalty, market research, creative, and PR.
Develop and share actionable customer insights across the organization to support development and delivery of compelling and successful executive education experiences.
Demonstrate and support a culture of collaboration, innovation, and results-based continuous improvement across functional and divisional boundaries.
Accountable for a multi-faceted, agile strategy to continually attract a high quality pool of applicants with enough geographic, gender, industry, and functional diversity to create the optimal program experience, and achieve enrollment goals.
Build a deep knowledge of the entire program portfolio, its alignment with HBS faculty research, and the needs of target audiences.
Refine strategies to engage the community of alumni, past participants and sponsors, with the goal of strengthening relationships and encouraging lifelong learning.
Measure, refine and communicate how well marketing channels are performing.
Curate the ExEd web, mobile, and social media presence.
Assess and manage key external partners and vendors to deliver results.
Build collaborative, productive relationships with key ExEd stakeholders as well as with faculty, IT, External Relations and HBS marketing teams, leveraging Harvard Business Publishing, HBX and other HBS resources.

8+ years of direct marketing and business development experience and 5+ years of direct line management experience.
Successful track record of leadership, strategic marketing, and business acumen. Extensive experience developing strategy for a premium global brand for digital and direct marketing, market research, SEO/SEM, social media, content marketing, web presence, mobile, channel selection and optimization, creative direction, and PR.
Proven expertise as both a strategic thinker and a project manager with a keen ability to synchronize the two. Demonstrated ability to identify, source, and direct outside business partners and service providers. Additional considerations include:
Must have an understanding of transactional based or e-commerce based web platforms.
A strong background in market analysis, quantitative and qualitative research, database knowledge, as well as complex data-set analysis is critical.
Knowledge of optimal marketing channel effectiveness and the cultural nuances of B2B conversion behavior in different regions of the world, particularly North America, Asia, Europe, and Latin America is required.
Capable of operating in a highly complex environment such as academia, with the particular concerns of higher education, and a nuanced decision-making process. Must believe in the mission and academic philosophy of HBS.
Expert communications skills (oral and written). Thorough understanding of the media and proven experience in working with and advising people in high-level, visible positions. Ability to advise and coach senior-level accomplished professionals on marketing and communications opportunities and issues.
Strong collaborator who builds trust across a wide range of stakeholders.
High degrees of intellectual and emotional intelligence.
