CMU is seeking a driven, detail-oriented, creative and hard-working individual to work in the Marketing and Communications division as a University Events Communications Coordinator in the Office of University Events, reporting to the Senior Director of University Events. You will be responsible for developing and managing communication plans to promote attendance, raise visibility and communicate key messages.
You will work closely with university events colleagues and be responsible for creating communication plans that align with event goals, objectives and audiences. This will include collaborating with other Marketing and Communications departments and teams, developing marketing budgets and ensuring communications pieces adhere to project timelines and deliverables.
Core responsibilities will include:
Develop and manage the marketing and communications elements alongside the development of the event strategy.
Write and edit content for event specific marketing materials and collateral.
Develop and edit web content (must have basic skills in online writing and HTML; must have experience using a Content Management System (CMS).
Develop communications cascades for invitations and other components of the event promotion.
Utilize email template; coordinate approvals and ensure emails are error-free and polished; send emails using mass email system (experience with Constant Contact, Emma or other platform preferred)
Partner with graphic design and online strategy teams, as well as the multimedia team to plan and implement photography and videography at events.
Collaborate with Internal Communications, Media Relations, social media specialists and colleges, schools and/or departments on various communication strategies and tactics.
Balance big picture goals while accomplishing small, critical details and tasks.
Work closely with event and communications managers to manage issues and to provide project progress, updates and changes to key stakeholders.
You should demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and poise, be self-motivated, and have good writing and editing abilities. You should also be able to solicit and interpret the needs of clients based on conversation and be able to problem solve creatively. The ability to think creatively and strategically when developing and managing communications will be key to success. You will exercise diplomacy, keen judgment and sound decision-making principles, and be able to recognize a potential problem and suggest solutions.
You will negotiate diverse environments and travel to various locations, on & off campus, as well as stand for long periods at university events. Weekend and evening hours will be required for assisting with major university events.This position resides at CMU's Oakland campus.
Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field required
Minimum three years of progressive experience in marketing or event related field
Demonstrated knowledge of online strategy, advertising, branding and other various media outlets
Basic knowledge of HTML and experience with working with content management systems
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
