The Director of Marketing and Communications serves in a key support role to the Senior Director of Marketing and Engagement, assisting in the development and execution of all consumer marketing and communications activities for WAMU. The Director will oversee development of all external and internal facing communications and collateral, including media relations. (S)he will initiate and implement marketing and advertising campaigns and develop key messaging by audience segment and optimized for distribution across on-air, digital, social and print platforms. The Director will work in close collaboration with the larger Marketing & Engagement Department to ensure proper branding and messaging is consistent across all platforms and channels.

A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or related field is required.
At least 8 years experience of demonstrated excellence in integrated marketing communications, media relations, corporate communications, branding, public affairs or related fields
Excellent writing and editing skills; demonstrated ability to write for specific channels and audience segments, including for on-air, print, social, web, media, fundraising etc.
Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, manage project timelines effectively, manage budget requirements and collaborate with partners across functional areas of the organization
Experience working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Evidence of effective marketing strategies and implementation in a non-profit or media-based environment
Supervisory experience is a plus
Advanced studies in marketing and public relations and experience with promotional uses of new media
Training and/or experience in journalism, proficiency in print and electronic publications design and production
Experience working with CRMs and Cision database preferred
